Auspicious Guardian: According to folk tradition, the tiger possesses the power to ward off demons and dispel evil spirits; customs such as hanging mugwort tigers during the Dragon Boat Festival—or dressing children in tiger-head shoes—are practiced as means of seeking safety and protection. The White Tiger is one of China's Four Sacred Beasts, symbolizing the God of War.
